Progress.

Here is a small presentation on my progress so far. I have included a fade sequence within my music video and here is how I achieved the fade I wanted:

Problems.

I have been trying to add fades in so that two shots are shown at once. I planned to do this in my story boarding because I thought it would create more of an interesting narrative. I have been figuring out how to do this and have managed to successfully do it. However, now I want to do another faded shot it is not working as the fade won't go over both shots and only just one, so I am trying to solve the problems trying different techniques and playing around a bit with the effects. This fade will enhance the meaning behind the song as the two shots I first faded together happen when the lyrics say "they're just living in my head". The artist has the first shot then the shot of the female fades in then it fades out again. This enphasizes the fact that it is her who he is thinking about which is interesting to watch and has a meanning behind the shot as well.

Here is how I managed to do the faded sequence:
Also, I am unable to use the inspired ideas from the Rihanna 'We found love' music video as I tried the projections and it looked too unprofessional. Unfortunately we do not have the equipment available to project a good quality image onto a quality screen. I have the original ideas to use instead of the inspired projection shots so, the music video will still be heavily narrative instead of narrative/performance heavy.

Editing stages.

Since I have finished capturing all of my shots I have started to edit them together, however, to do so I need the soundtrack and I haven't managed to download it yet. Tonight, I will be downloading the track ready for next lesson, so I can crack on even further with my editing with the right timing. Although, I have not had the song, I have not wasted my time, instead I have been practicing how to add some effects on to some of the footage I want. It took me time to find out how to have two shots showing at one time faded into each other, but I have found out how to do it so I will be able to manage these effects without too much problem when it comes down to the effects.

Finished capturing.

After the past 3 lessons I have been capturing footage into the right categories of my music video. I have captured parts of the footage and saved them with an appropriate name which will be easy for me to find when I need it to put into my music video when editing. I am happy with the footage I have got now I have looked back at them and will see if I need any more footage for my music video.

This is how I captured the footage from the camera to save onto the computer...

I first plugged the camera up to the computer and the 'Digital video device' pops up with three options and I chose the middle option 'edit and record video'.

The 'Adobe premiere pro' comes up with options to choose from and I chose the first option 'New project'. However, when I come onto do this again I will choose the middle option 'open project' as I have saved the new project to the computer so I can easily open it again through this option.

When I clicked on 'open project' I need to find the saved project within my computers documents. I have saved it in 'My Computer' - 'Video (V:)' - 'Stacey Hartley' then the project I saved before is in that file as in the below image.

My project comes up like this below. To capture more footage I have to go to 'File' - 'Capture' or I could just press 'F5' on the keyboard. The footage should them come up on the screen for my to capture.

It is now time for me to start putting my captured footage together to make my music video.

New ideas.

After watching Rihanna's new music video called "we found love" ft. Calvin Harris, I have found some really interesting material in there which has inspired me to try something similar. The parts I found where performing parts of the music video as Rihanna is stood against a plain wall with a moving picture of multiple images projected onto her and the wall. This looks really effective and is something unexpected and really caught my eye.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg00YEETFzg

Here are the images which are projected:
Lightening:
This is the first shot we see of this effective sequence. The lightening in the room gives a flashing effect which means only on the flash are we able to see Rihanna so it is sort of like strobe lighting, which looks great as she moves within the frame.

Road:
The road gives the audience a hint that there is a story behind the song and the road in day time seems to be a good road to be on. This image gives meaning and effectiveness for the music vdeo for the audience to enjoy watching.

Light sky:
The sky image looks extremely effect as we see the white clouds contrasting with the blue sky moving over Rihanna and gives a sense of freedom. So again there is a meaning behind the image.

Petals:
The opening flowers and petals withing this image gives a meaning of blossoming which could represent the relationship that Rihanna is singing about is growing stronger as time goes on.

Field:
I believe the field is a good place to get effectiveness as we see Rihanna looks to be standing within the field. Also because we see this image when she sings "we found love in hopeless place", this could resemble a hopeless place where the couple fell in love. After this image the music starts to pick up and get more agressive with the image as the story behind the song unravels within the music video.

Fireworks:
The fireworks are within a very quick sequence in the song and we only see glimpses but the fireworks add towards the chaos and darkness surrounding the story unfolding at the point in the music video.

Night sky:
This image of the night sky is giving the audience a hint as to what is to come. We see in the video at the beginning, the shot of the day time sky (light) and now it has gotten darker. This represents that from a happy relationship they have gone to a dark and unhappy relationship, which the audiene can witness with the narrative of the video.

Night traffic:
This image is shown when Rihanna sings "mind" which is part of a line "feel the heart beat in my mind". As this shows a dark night with bright lights from cars in random places among the wall and Rihanna it represents her confusing "mind". The flashing lights mixed with the lyrics of the song gives the audience a meaning to understand within the narrative of this music video.

Bright light:
The bright light on Rihanna against the wall can mean that she feels like she has a spotlight on her all the time like she is being watched and judged on what she does. This meaning represents the songs narrative and therefore gets the audience thinking.

Fire:
The fire can represent that she feels like she is stuck within a burning building with no way out. This keeps the audience focused and questioning what their relationship is like.

Building collapsing:
The collapsing building can represent their relationship crash as well. The way Rihanna is standing with her back to the camera and upright also questions whether it's their relationship which is crashing down or the boy whose falling to his needs and can not cope with her being strong and holding up.

Chinese symbols:
The symbols may represent that she thinks their relationship feels foreign, like it isn't like it used to be and with the other shots surrounding this particular shot, they back up what this may represent.

Eye:
The big eye spread across the wall with Rihanna sat in the corner symbolizes that she is being watched all the time and it is making her the underdog in the relationship and possibly the victim within an abusive relationship. This image really gets the audience thinking to interpretate the narrative.

Flashing lights:
The dark flashing lights can mean that she is trying to think of what to do with their relationship but is confused and the shots surrounding this image supports that idea. This shot I believe will keep the audience watching and interested by the various interesting shots.

Blank:
This is the ending shot of the whole music video and represents that she is scarred and with just a plain white wall in the back ground it an also mean she is fed up of thinking and is now empty minded. As all the shots above were set where this one is set so it could mean that she got her feelings out using the lyrics and various images to symbolize how she is feeling and ended up like this shot...blank.

I believe from analyzing this music video and seeing that the performance shots are only done within this set and image projection, and the performance part of the music video surrounds these shots in various locations. I would love to take away inspiration from this and add this into my music video. As I am already using 3 very different major locations (beach, cliff and forest) all which are based outside, within my music video, this would add more energy and a more enthusiastic, exaggerated and dynamic performance approach which would keep the audience interested and possibly interpretating the meanings behind the images I decide to project. I am very excited by this idea and glad I have been inspired to go along with it. After I start to edit my music video together I will see which kind of shots I will need to get. I have already got a performance space available which I an use with a projector at school so that is no problem.
